The Merritt Centennials took advantage of a lack lustre effort by Quesnel in doubling the Millionaires 6-3 at the Vault. The winning goal in the third period came as goaltender Luke Siemens was trying to clear the puck behind the net, but had it stolen by Lucas Daoust and he slid it into the empty net. It was one of 3 goals scored by Merritt in the third, after Quesnel had tied the game at 3. Colton Sobchak gave Merritt a two goal advantage on the power play at 15:50 with a screen shot over Siemens right shoulder. Alex Valenti finished the scoring on a 2 on 1 with an empty net marker.
Quesnel opened the scoring as Taylor Holst deflected a shot from the point by Sam Higgins, but Merritt tied it less than 35 seconds later at 6:45 as Sobchak scored on a break away at 6:45. Quesnel retook the lead at 9:06 on a partial breakaway as Higgins hit Tyler French with a pass at the far blueline and he beat Keith Hamilton high to the glove side. The turning point in the game, came with 1.9 seconds on the clock as Quesnel lost the face-off and Mitch Jones scored on another screen shot to tie the game and take the momentum back.
Merritt got the only goal of the second as they caught Quesnels defense napping and Dustin Johnson picked up a rebound after Siemens had made a save and the puck came around the net on the right side, and Johnson beat the defender to the puck and swept it into the open cage. Quesnel did get some momentum back at the start of the third, as Jacob Verheyden went to the net for a rebound and it bounced in after Darick Ste-Marie broke in on the left side. With the win, Merrit now holds down 5th place by themselves, but Quesnel still has two games in hand on the Centennials as they head to Williams Lake on Tuesday to take on the Timberwolves.
